Пробки - одна из самых очевидных проблем наших городов. Массы людей едут на работу и с работы из «спальных районов» в заполненный офисами центр, создавая «часы пик». Один из способов уменьшить эту проблему - городская политика под названием «mixed use». Ее цель - создавать рабочие места на окраинах, застраивать территории зданиями разного назначения, и в итоге - уменьшить «часы пик». Но модели, выглядящие как однозначное благо в градостроительных концепциях, могут выглядеть странно и нелепо в реальной жизни. И эта серия работ - попытка осмысления феномена «смешанного использования» в Санкт-Петербурге. Являются ли однозначным благом безликие бизнес-центры на окраинах? Торговые комплексы у метро? Смесь коммуналок с офисами в центре? Можно ли считать примером mixed use КБ развалившегося завода, занятое неизвестно чем? Жилой комплекс на месте этого завода? Если эти территории порождают проблемы, то неизбежны ли они?

Traffic jams are one of the most obvious problems of our cities. Masses of people travel to and from work from residential districts to the offices in the city centre, creating “peak hours”. One way to reduce this problem is urban policy called “mixed use”. Its goal is to create jobs on the outskirts, and to develop new territories with buildings for various purposes, and, as a result, to reduce “peak hours”. Such models look like a benefit in urban planning concepts, but may look strange and ridiculous in real life. And this series of works is an attempt to understand the phenomenon of "mixed use" in Saint-Petersburg. Can we say, that faceless business centers on the outskirts is evidential benefit? And what about shopping malls near the subway station? A mixture of communal flats and offices in the center? Should we consider constructor`s buildings of a collapsed plant, occupied by unknown means, as an example of mixed use? And what about residential buildings on the site of this plant? If these territories cause problems, are they inevitable?
