Однажды преподаватель нас спросил: "Как мог бы выглядеть сегодня Бухарест, если бы процесс модернизации, запущенный в XIX веке, шел не по западным шаблонам, а развивал бы локальные традиции, и понятие "Большая деревня" рассматривалось бы как позитивное? Эти рисунки - попытка ответить на этот вопрос. Я думаю, что город может иметь изогнутые улочки разной ширины и характера; плотно застроенный центр и дома со своими садами и участками на периферии. Стиль - балканская вернакулярная архитектура: арочные окна, павильончики, лоджии, восточные орнаменты. Городской силуэт определяли бы многочисленные церкви. Главными общественными пространствами были бы камерные площади и сады.

A professor asked us one day: what would Bucharest look like today if instead of orienting towards the West in the process of modernization that started in the XIX century, would have followed the tradition? What if the name given of "a big village" would have been seen as something positive? These drawings are trying to give an answer to these questions. I believe that the city might have sinuous streets, with variable widths and characters; the center with a dense construction and as we go to the suburbs with lush gardens and houses placed inside the plots; the image would be of a Balkan and vernacular architecture; there would be bow windows, pavilions, loggias, oriental decorations, etc; because of the small heights of the buildings in general, the citys silhouette would be marked by the towers of numerous churches; on the fields (maidan) that existed before might be squares and the former inns would be lively public spaces alongside the public gardens.
